It's Official!

We Voted Overwhelmingly in Favor of Joining Forces with 1199SEIU!

Florida healthcare workers voted by a nearly unanimous margin to join forces with 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, the largest and fastest growing union for healthcare workers in the country.

SEIU Healthcare Florida will now become part of the 350,000 member local, 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East. Members of SEIU Healthcare Florida voted by mail-in ballots, which were tallied at the union headquarters. The results were 97 percent in favor of the merger, which will bring more resources to the healthcare workers of Florida.

“Having a strong union voice gives us more power to advocate for patient care,” said Betsy Marville, RN, Executive Vice President of SEIU Healthcare Florida’s Nurse Division.  “This is an unprecedented opportunity for healthcare workers to ensure that new policies are implemented with our voices front and center.”

NOW THAT WE’RE PARTNERED FOR POWER WITH 1199SEIU, WHAT’S NEXT?

On July 1, 2010, our local will officially become part of the nation’s largest healthcare workers’ local, 1199SEIU United Healthcare East.

On July 23rd-24th, union members from across Florida will come together in Palm Beach to:

•    Celebrate our new future as 1199SEIU members,
•    Participate in worksite power trainings and
•    Officially swear in 1199SEIU delegates, the name 1199SEIU calls “stewards.”

Look for registration, transportation and event location information in the mail, online at www.SEIUHealthcareFL.org, in your email, or through your union representatives and stewards to register.
